This course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and certification to train others in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and/or CPR & First-Aid courses. The ideal Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) already demonstrates leadership abilities, communicates clearly and respectfully and has a desire to empower others. Instructor candidates must be completely proficient with all Lifeguarding skills and knowledge, and be ale to successfully perform CPR without assistance.
Participants must pass the Lifeguard's pre-course swim test that is administered in advance of the first day of training, which includes:
300 yard swim using crawl stroke or breaststroke
2 minute tread without using hands
Timed brick retrieval in 7 feet of water
Demonstrate proficiency with all rescue skills
This class is a Blended Learning Training course. To complete the Blended Learning portion of the course, you will need a computer with internet access.
We present the curriculum in an easy-to-understand way that keeps participants engaged throughout the course. Our focus on the individual keeps us aware of each participant’s progress and understanding of the content. Our goal is for all participants to successfully complete the course with confidence, ready to save lives.
Pool temperature matters! Learning any skill in the water is much more pleasant in warmer temperatures- from learning to Swim, Scuba Diving, or Lifeguarding. Our 88 degree pool is a perfect place to learn, while our classroom is bright and welcoming. Participants will have access to our locker room and shower facilities, and towel service is available.
Our courses are specifically designed for busy people. Public classes are regularly scheduled and we can usually provide training sessions for your group, by request.
We are centrally located in Seattle, north of Downtown between several popular neighborhoods. Our location has excellent public transit options and the area is bicycle friendly as well. Parking is available and our Lake Union location can’t be beat!
Course cost is $300, which includes access to the digital version of the Lifeguard Participant's Manual -available for download. A printed copy of the Instructor's manual is required during classroom sessions. As an Authorized Instructor there are many more materials available to you at the Red Cross Store for conducting classes, including the Deluxe Instructor Kit.
