What is our CIT Program?
A specifically designed camp leadership program for teens ages 14-16, who have a sincere desire to develop their leadership skills, who enjoy being in and around the water, and are interested in becoming a future camp counselor.
To provide participants a fun and engaging training where they can learn to effectively use their leadership skills while working with children in a camp setting, then giving them opportunities to gain confidence as they apply these new skills in other settings throughout their lives.
What to expect...
CIT's will have opportunities to work directly with campers under the mentorship of camp staff. They will get practice in leading groups and teaching games and skills. CIT's must commit to two weeks of camp. This gives them the chance to gain their leadership skills, then work with a specific group and staff helping with continuity and giving them the chance to learn and grow from their experiences at camp!
Leadership Training Day (CIT -1)
The Leadership Training (CIT-1) is an action packed day where all the CIT's develop their leadership skills, learn what to expect from our Swim N Adventure campers and meet the other CIT's! A completed CIT-1 day is required in order to be placed in a CIT-2 week.
Group Placement Week (CIT-2)
CIT’s will work together with the camp director to schedule their CIT-2 week. We place one CIT per group, with our Swim N Adventure Campers (ages 6-10). CIT's will practice their new leadership skills and shadow camp counselors and swim instructors to specifically observe and learn various skills and techniques. Daily workshops will instruct CIT’s on various aspects of successful camp activities, safety, and leadership skills. These weeks are where CIT's practice the leadership skills under the supervision of a camp counselor.
Responsibilities during the CIT-2 week
CIT's will greeting campers in the morning, helping them with activities throughout the day, participating in safe pool play, setting up snacks, etc., and -- most importantly -- being supportive and enthusiastic members of the group! Each day, the CIT's will meet with their counselors to plan and prepare for the campers.
Who is eligible to be a CIT?
We select energetic, smiling and friendly people who are excited about providing an exceptional camp experience. CIT's must commit to two weeks of camp, and be the appropriate age by the first day of their CIT-1 week. Most importantly, you must be eager to learn and grow as a counselor and as a person! To apply, please fill out the Application Request form. Once the completed application and all 3 reference forms are received, applicants will be contacted by the Camp Director to schedule a phone interview.
